Undertaking the making of a painting or drawing, for me, is a journey which can, at times, lead to a new discovery. A specific place, person, thing or event can be my starting point and as I focus on the drawing and painting process, the subject becomes less important than the relationship of shapes, spaces and colors that I discover along the way. sometimes the beginning idea vanishes and the work itself becomes the subject and I am pleased and sometimes the original starting point sticks and then I am not so pleased. But always the trip is worth the effort.
